In Memory of Gary Nicholson FORMER TDA DIRECTOR, GARY NICHOLSON PASSES AWAY
Gary Nicholson, president of Lake Superior Warehousing Company, Inc. in Duluth, Minnesota succumbed to cancer at his home in Maple Grove, Minnesota on June 28, 2008. Gary was elected to the TDA Board of Directors in 2002 and resigned in January of 2008 due to his illness. He was very active in the Transload Distribution Association annual meetings and moderated many panel programs and transload seminars. Gary was responsible for gathering congressional support for the transload industry and brought U.S. Representative Jim Oberstar (MN), Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, to Las Vegas to address the TDA conference and discuss important issues in the transportation sector. Gary was highly respected in the cargo handling and transloading industry and marketed the Port of Duluth's ability to efficiently transload cargo between ships, truck and trains. Under Gary's leadership, Lake Superior Warehousing gained a reputation for the ability to handle many challenging cargoes and, because of his background in rail, trucking and ship operations, he was able to bundle transportation packages. As a TDA Director, he readily shared his expertise with transloaders throughout North America. He was an expert in multimodal transportation operations and was willing to give his time to help or counsel transloaders whenever called upon. Gary was always filled with positive energy and good cheer. He had a no-nonsense honesty respected by both his industry colleagues and Washington policy makers. He will be duly missed by his friends and associates throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. In Nicholson's memory his friends and family have established the G.W. Nicholson Scholarship Fund to support students in the University of Wisconsin-Superior's Transportation and Logistics Program. Memorials may be sent to the UWS Advancement Office, P.O.
